Gardai are enquiring after a young girl received a cut to her face shortly after teenagers were seen abusing locals in South Dublin.

Residents are now "angry and worried" after the alleged incident which happened shortly after a group were seen terrorising people in the area.

The alleged attack happened in the Ballycullen area of Knocklyon with gardai now launching an enquiry into exactly what happened, Dublin Live reports.

The group, who were a mixture of teenage girls and boys, were spotted near the Spar at Woodstown shortly after 6pm.

They were heard "shouting" abuse at passersby and according to a witness, "one girl came running down crying" and had a "cut on her face, after having been attacked".

The young girl was understandably shaken after the horrific incident and was offered to be brought home by some locals following the attack.

The witness said that this sort of behaviour among some young people in the area "is getting out of control".

They added: "These kids are local. This needs to be stopped, zero tolerance before it goes any further.

"I don’t know the answer but it’s local kids and everyone needs to be involved to stop this now.

They concluded: "This is our neighborhood and we need it to be safe."

In a statement to Dublin Live, gardai said that they "are aware of an alleged incident that occurred at a shopping centre".

They confirmed that the incident took place "in the Ballycullen area of Dublin 24 on April 7 at approximately 6pm".

They also added that "no official complaint has been received to date" but that enquiries are ongoing.
