New Yorkers, especially commuting New Yorkers, are supposed to be a grumpy bunch. But it turns out that one pint-sized dancer in pink is all it takes to cut loose a subway platform party.
A clip of a young girl dancing in the New York City subway has collected more than 4.6m views on YouTube since it was posted online last week.
Clad in a pink coat and pink glasses, the girl took banjo buskers up on their rendition of a Grateful Dead hit, hopping and scooting until a handful of passengers surrendered and joined in.
The girl’s dance at the Bedford Avenue L train station ended with her lifting her hands in the air and being picked up by her guardian.
The young lady danced to a cover of Me and My Uncle, a song about the cowboy lifestyle, including bar fights and card games. It was written by John Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas.
Coyote & Crow, a Brooklyn-based, banjo-playing married couple from upstate New York, performed the cover. When not playing in subway stations, the duo performs their “Folkadelic Rock’n’Soul” at venues across New York City.
