Young girl injured after Audi mounts pavement and ploughs through shoppers

This is the shocking moment shoppers were forced to jump out of the way as an Audi Q7 that was being chased by men with baseball bats ploughed into clothes rails outside a shop.

Terrified pedestrians, most of who were women and children, were walking past shops on Alum Rock Road, Birmingham, when the black people carrier mounted the pavement and ploughed onto the packed pavement.

People were forced to rush out of the way into the safety of a shop just before the car shot past parked cars and hit clothing rails on display outside.

A young girl was injured and taken to hospital but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Footage shows at least two hooded men wielding bats and chasing the car on foot as it knocks shop stock and narrowly misses a child.

The Audi then stops before a door swings open and a man flees. The men wielding the bats also turn around and disappear.

In the clip, a woman could be seen grabbing a child who narrowly missed the car by inches.

The footage has been widely shared on social media since the incident, which took place just before 5.45pm last Sunday.

A member of the Alum Rock Community Forum  condemned the behaviour as “reckless” and said the area would have been extremely busy with shoppers.

The spokesman said: “It’s shocking. This happened in the heart of the  Alum Rock Road  with people doing their Christmas shopping and taking advantage of the sales.

“They put women and children's lives at risk.

"From the video, we can see people parading around with three foot long bats again with no regard for the law.”

A spokesperson for Midlands police told Mirror Online: "Police were called to reports of a collision on Alum Rock Road, Alum Rock just after 4:30pm yesterday (Sunday 22 December).

"A young girl was taken to hospital with an injury to her foot which is not life-threatening.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight or call 101 anytime quoting log number 1832 of 22 December."
