Young girl hit by car at Christmas lights switch-on in Kilwinning as police close off road

An 11-year-old girl has been knocked down by a car during the Christmas lights switch-on in Kilwinning.

Emergency services raced to Lauchlan Way in the Ayrshire town after the alarm was raised at around 6.55pm on Thursday.

Ambulance crews rushed the girl to Crosshouse Hospital where her condition is described as stable.

Lauchlan Way, near Ayrshire College, remains closed off as police continue their enquiries.

A spokesperson from Police Scotland told the Record: "Police were called to a report of a female pedestrian who was hit by a car in Lauchlan Way in Kilwinning.

"We were called at 6.55pm.

"The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance.

"Lauchalan Way remains closed off near Ayrshire College."
