Young football player who heckled Cam Newton apologizes, hopes he ‘can be forgiven’

A video of Cam Newton at a 7-on-7 tournament went viral over the weekend as a young player at the event heckled the quarterback about being a free agent.

Newton responded, “I’m rich! over and over, and he later took to Instagram to post a lengthy breakdown and explanation of what he was trying to say to the young man, who was a high school player named Jseth Owens.

Owens released an apology late Sunday night to Newton and others for what happened.

“As a football player I let my competitive side get the best of me & it was a huge miscommunication,” Owens wrote. “It was in the midst of the moment & I realize now how a lot of you took it as disrespect. I never meant to humiliate & let anyone down.”

Give him some serious credit for the public apology.
