Young family at Upper Colo isolated by floodwater for more than a week

The easiest way to contact Luke Ursino is via Instagram — or maybe SES boat.

He, his wife and their three small children are stuck in their home at Upper Colo, isolated by floodwater.

The youngest is their three-week-old baby.

A third of her life has been spent in this little pocket, cut-off from the rest of the world.

"Lucky, she's a good baby," Mr Ursino said.

The older children, a toddler two-and-a-half and four-year-old, are "getting over it".

Their mobile phone reception is patchy and the internet only runs when the generator is turned on to keep the freezers cold.

"We are missing friends and family and going a little stir-crazy," Mr Ursino said.

The water in Wheeny Creek, a tributary of the Hawkesbury River system, first rose on Tuesday last week.

The remote location has now been cut-off from the rest of the world for more than a week.

At its worst, the flooding came within 10 metres of their home.

It also almost lapped at the door of the tiny home on their property which is also a short-term holiday accommodation business.

Mr Ursino said it was "stressful" for him and his young family seeing the water come so close.

It's not yet clear how bad the damage to their property is.

They already know their driveway and a retaining wall have been washed away.

The family's donkeys and sheep have been housed in their garage.

"We like it, it's nice and quiet," he said.

"But this is our third flood in three years.

"It's getting a bit much."

With the water still needing to fall several metres before normal access is restored, the isolation is set to continue for a few more days yet.
