Young Everton defender Lewis Gibson to seal loan exit

Lewis Gibson is expected to seal a loan move to Fleetwood Town on deadline day.

The Everton defender was finalising a new deal with the club earlier on Thursday before he headed to the Fylde coast to complete a move to the ambitious League One outfit.

Gibson, 19, will be heading out on the first loan of his career with an announcement on his short-term switch to Joey Barton’s side likely to be confirmed on Friday morning.

The centre-half will join up with Blues’ team-mate Callum Connolly who signed for Fleetwood at the beginning of the month, having spent the first part of the campaign with Lincoln City.

Talks over a new deal for Gibson have intensified in recent weeks with the teenager keen to have a pathway mapped out for him by Everton before he committed his future.

It is understood that another loan move will be arranged in the summer before Gibson returns to Goodison to link back up with Carlo Ancelotti’s first-team squad.
