Young East Lothian cyclist left shaken and hurt in 'hit-and-run' outside nursery

A young East Lothian cyclist was hurt in 'hit-and-run' outside a nursery in Dunbar this morning.

Edinburgh Live understands that the incident took place at 08:20am and that the cyclist was not seriously hurt but is in a state of “shock.”

It is understood that the young male cyclist was attempting to cross the road at Cherrytrees Nursery when he was struck by either a white or silver car.

It is believed that the cyclist witnessed the driver check their mirrors before driving off without checking that they were ok.

The cyclist is believed to have suffered scapes and bruises while a good samaritan took him to Dunbar Health Centre - it is also understood that two female grammar school students had also helped him.

Police are now investigating while posts on social media also appealed for anyone who has information or who witnessed the incident to come forward.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were called around 10am following a report of a road traffic crash involving a car and a pedestrian on Abbey Road. There does not appear to be any life threatening injuries and inquiries are currently ongoing.”
