Young Dun Laoghaire man 'may never walk again' after horror crash at 'birthday celebration'

The friend of a young Dublin man who suffered a serious back injury said he's keeping his spirits up and "joking around" despite the ordeal.

Ballyogan native Craig Mulholland, 21, was in a serious motorbike accident on Easter Sunday in the Sally Gap and was told by doctors that he may never walk again.

Shauna Conway, along with two friends from work, created a GoFundMe in order to help alleviate the financial burden that will come with the life-changing injury that happened just one week after Craig turned 21.

Shauna said: "This was kind of a birthday celebration thing, that he was going out with the lads for a motorbike ride."

Craig was taking a turn when he was forced to swerve out of the way of an oncoming car.

The GoFundMe page has raised €17,150 out of the €20,000 goal and Shauna said that the progress of the fundraiser has helped lift his spirits.

Craig will be moving back to his mum's house after he gets out of hospital.

The house will need to undergo modifications which will cost around €40,000.
