Young Dumbarton fans make sure they don't miss out on the Sons in action

Young Dumbarton fans locked out of seeing their team weren’t to be denied the opportunity to see the Sons live.

Supporters have been unable to attend matches in Scotland since March 2020, with a blanket ban on fans covering games at all levels.

However a group of young Sons supporters found their own way of making sure they got a view of the action - and stayed socially distanced.

Propping bikes (and a tree trunk) up against the fence of the C&G Systems Stadium, the youngsters peered over to take in Dumbarton’s first win of 2021 against East Fife last Thursday night.

And the picture, which is sure to become a defining image of lockdown locally, received a huge reaction online.

Heswall FC’s Twitter account posted: “Isn’t that what it’s all about and yet shows how sad it is that they aren’t inside.

“Football is for the fans and should forever be the people’s game.”

Kenneth Bryce commented: “Top drawer - get in there lads - I feel for the wee lad at the end though.”

And former Sons striker Paul Maxwell joked: “This was me when I signed for them as a player about 10 years ago.

“Gies a game!”
