A young Dublin man who tragically died after falling and hitting his head close to his home while running as part of his Movember fundraiser has been named locally.
Conor Cronin was only 26 when he sadly died in the freak incident while raising money for the Men's Health organisation, running as team leader for his workplace, Dublin company Edgescan.
Hundreds turned out on Sunday for the Drumcondra native at a vigil for the young man whose Movember has jumped from €200 to nearly €40,000 and rising since his untimely death.
His brother confirmed the tragic news on his Facebook last night describing him as a "incredible, funny and witty guy".
He added: "I'm so lucky to be able to call him my brother. Conor sadly fell and hit his head while he was out running to raise money for the charity Movember.
"If anyone would like to donate here is a link to his Movember page."
His Movember account is now the number one ranked page in the world on the donation leaderboard.
Coláiste Árainn Mhóir, a Gaelscoil in Donegal where Conor had attended as both a pupil and leader for many years also expressed their sadness at the news.
They said: "Heartfelt condolences to the family of Conor Cronin who passed away suddenly.
"A young gentleman who has sadly died too young and too soon.
"He spent many years on the island as a scholar and leader, may he have the best bed in the Heaven of God."
