A young Dublin man is scared for his life that a dangerous criminal gang who petrol bombed his car will return to carry out an even worse attack.
The 22-year-old from north Dublin only passed his driving test last December and paid for his own insurance policy in June after getting the 2011 Opel Insignia which was torched by the thugs in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He's under 25, a man and a newly qualified driver - A claim on his insurance, especially so soon after first purchasing it, will see the premium rise no end.
So, the young man will possibly have to fork out for another car with his own money instead in the coming days, all because the cruel group decided to randomly burn his €3,500 worth nine-year-old car in an unprovoked incident.
His sister told Dublin Live that she managed to catch a glimpse of one of the thugs before he fled the scene.
She said: "We heard a big bang at around 2am on Sunday morning.
"When we looked out the bedroom window, we saw a young lad in a grey north face tracksuit, white runners and a black hat standing at my brother's car.
"He was after putting a brick through the window and I shouted 'what the f*** are you doing?'.
"He looked at us and fired the petrol bomb in through the window of the car and it just set alight immediately.
"He ran off around the corner as we live in a Cul De Sac in the area."
She continued: "All we caught on our camera was one of the lads' legs.
"It's frightened him a lot. It was a random attack, he keeps to himself and wouldn't get into a row with anyone, goes to work and comes home and hangs out with his girlfriend.
"He's really worried that they will come back again and do more damage or even target him this time.
Gardai confirmed the incident to Dublin Live and have launched an investigation.
A spokeswoman said: "We are investigating a suspected criminal damage by fire incident that occurred at 2:10am on Sunday, 9 August in [place named], when a vehicle was discovered on fire."
She added: "No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made to date but investigations are ongoing."
