Young drug dealer caught in Cardiff's student area ordered to pay back £13,000

A young drug dealer who was caught dealing in Cardiff's student area has been ordered to pay back £13,000.

Lanoi Liddell, 24, had set up a "drugs shop" at his home and was found with up to £8,740 worth of substances.

He was originally arrested after his car was stopped in Cathays in October 2020 by police and a search revealed he was in possession of alprazolam tablets, prescription painkiller oxycodone, and around £200 in cash.

When they searched his home address at Lewis Court, Maelfa, officers discovered quantities of ketamine, cocaine, MDMA, LSD, and magic mushrooms with an overall street value in the region of up to £8,740 along with electric scales and more than £7,000 in cash.

The defendant was also later found to be involved in the "street level" supply of MDMA, ketamine, and cocaine.

He was jailed for three years and four months at Cardiff Crown Court in February.

A Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) hearing at the same court on Wednesday heard Liddell had benefited through drug dealing to the tune of £22,047. The court heard the amount available to the defendant was £13,337.

Recorder Paul Hopkins QC made a confiscation order for that amount and told the defendant he would receive a further seven months imprisonment in default if that amount had not been paid within three months.
