Young doctor dies in freak electrical accident during photoshoot day before his wedding

A young doctor died in a freak accident during a photoshoot with his fiancee a day before his wedding.

Dr Denis Ricardo Faria Gurgel, 31, was electrocuted when a fishing rod he was holding during a wedding photoshoot got stuck in a high-voltage power line in Brazil.

He and his fiancee were doing a photoshoot in Cariri do Tocantins - more than 550km from the capital of Brasilia.

The pair were posting for photos with fishing rods, and when they cast them, the hook got caught on a powerline.

Denis went to remove the hook but was electrocuted when he put both hands on the line.

It was later understood that the plastic coating had come away on some parts of the cable, exposing the line.

The fire brigade and ambulance service raced to the scene, but Denis was sadly dead when they arrived.

The fireman confirmed Denis had come in contact with the exposed line.

Denis worked for the Gurupi Municipal Health Department in a Covid-19 triage centre and also worked shifts for the Lagoa da Confusao City Hall.

The Gurupi City Hall wrote: "Helpful and always polite, Denis was very dear to his professional colleagues and also to his patients. His premature death leaves everyone shocked and in mourning for this great loss."

The Lagoa da Confusao City Hall wrote: "The city hall expresses its solidarity with family members and friends. May God comfort everyone's heart at this time."

Denis and his fiancee had been due to wed on July 30.

It was not reported if the police are investigating the case.
