Young dad, 20, found dead in city centre with 'traumatic head injuries'

A young dad who was found dead in Manchester city centre suffered 'traumatic head injuries', an inquest heard.

The body of Luke Riley, 20, was discovered behind a building in Deansgate on September 24.

An inquest was opened into the death of the father-of-three, who lived in Stockport, at Manchester Coroner's Court on Thursday (October 21).

In a statement read out in court, police coroner's officer Paul Devine gave brief details of the circumstances surrounding Mr Riley's death.

He said: "Mr Riley was found deceased outdoors at the bottom of the fire exit stairs at the rear of 346 Deansgate in Manchester."

Coroner Fiona Borrill told the hearing that a post-mortem examination had been carried out, and had given Mr Riley's provisional cause of death as 'traumatic head injuries with skull fractures'.

She requested statements from a number of agencies, including Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and Pennine Care, regarding their involvement with Mr Riley.

Ms Borrill adjourned the hearing, with a full inquest date yet to be set.

Police have previously said they do not believe there to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Riley's death.

A police cordon was in place on Deansgate at the junction of Bridgewater Street after his body was discovered last month.

Commuters were also turned away from a car park which had been taped off by officers.

In a tribute on Facebook, Mr Riley's fiancee described him as her 'best friend and soul mate'.
