Young cyclist tragically dies in hit and run incident in Dublin city as Gardai appeal for witnesses

A cyclist who was involved in a hit and run incident in Dublin has sadly passed away, gardai have said.

The man, aged in his 20s, was seriously injured after being struck by a car on North Wall Quay in the city centre at around 10.30pm on Monday night.

He was rushed by Ambulance to the Mater Hospital in a serious condition however he sadly passed away today.

The driver involved failed to remain at the scene and now gardai are issuing a renewed appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

A car understood to have been involved in the incident was recovered at Castleforbes Square a short time later by Gardai but no arrests have been made to date and enquires are ongoing.

A garda spokesman said: "Gardai at Store Street are renewing their appeal for witnesses following a serious collision involving a cyclist and a car in Dublin on Monday 31st August 2020.

"A male cyclist in his 20s who was taken by ambulance from the scene in a serious condition has since passed away from his injuries at the Mater hospital on 2nd September, 2020.

"Gardai are renewing their appeal for witnesses and in particular to anyone who was in the area of the North Wall Quay, North Wall Avenue, East Wall Road, Sheriff Street Upper, Castleforbes Road or Castleforbes Square between 10.15pm and 10.30pm to come forward.

"They are also appealing to road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) from the area at the time to make it available to them.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room at Store Street Garda station 01 6668000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
