A young couple's first holiday together ended in disaster - when only one of them was allowed to fly home because of Covid.
Tom Selsby, 23, and Lauren Haddock, 18, both from Merseyside, were due to jet back to Britain last Saturday after a trip to Majorca.
But when Tom tested positive for Covid on the Friday, the pair were driven by ambulance to a hotel to isolate - and sent to different rooms.
Spanish officials then told Tom he had to test negative to board his flight - which he did.
But Lauren, from St Helens, tested positive - leaving her stranded on the Balearic Island.
She told the Liverpool Echo : "I can't believe it. He got the negative and then I tested positive which meant I could not fly home with him.

"Tom had to be back at work so I told him to go. It's a bit strange and I think my nan wants to fly out and rescue me."
Lauren said she was baffled as to how she tested positive.
She said: "So after the fifth day in the hotel I tested negative with a PCR test. But then on Sunday there was a second PCR test which came back as positive.
"I got hold of a few lateral flow tests and they have read as negative. It's all very strange."
Lauren said she was also left a bit confused by the Spanish authorities.

She said: "They just phoned my room and said I was positive. I have asked for written confirmation but that is not possible.
"I feel fine and I find it hard to believe I have the virus.
"When I try and call the local Covid authorities its all in Spanish so its very hard to choose the right options."
Lauren said that in isolation you get three meals a day and a snack sent up to your room.
She said: "Before Tom left he bought some cokes and snacks. But apart from that its the hotel food which is very bland. Lots of soup and sandwiches."

Lauren has been told that she needs to test negative before she could fly home.
She said: "I check out of the hotel on the 12th, and then go for another PCR test. If that is positive I am not sure what happens.
"Tom and I were both vaccinated and flew out when Spain was on the green list. We just want to highlight this issue and let people know what can happen.
"We both booked a fortnight off work but then had to take unpaid leave when we were unable to fly home.

"Work have been really supportive and contacted me everyday on Facetime. They have been fab."
Tom, from Kirkby, said he was not sure if his holiday insurance covered positive Covid tests so the couple may be liable for the costs of their flights home.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has now placed Spain, including the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera), on the amber list.
All arrivals to Spain from the UK must present on entry either a negative COVID-19 test or proof that they are fully vaccinated. All travellers are also required to complete a pre-travel declaration form.
Further requirements and entry restrictions may also apply if you have travelled to a ‘risk country’ within 14 days prior to your arrival in Spain; you are travelling from mainland Spain to the Balearic or Canary Islands, or staying in tourist accommodation in the Canary Islands; or you are travelling overland (by road or rail) from France.
Entry requirements now differ for fully vaccinated and not fully vaccinated passengers returning to the UK from Spain.
If you are fully vaccinated under the UK vaccination programme, before you travel to the UK you must take a COVID-19 test, book and pay for a day two Covid-19 test to be taken once you return, as well as complete a passenger locator form. You do not need to quarantine unless the day two test result is positive.
If you are not fully vaccinated, before you travel to the UK you must take a COVID-19 test , book and pay for day two and day eight Covid-19 tests to be taken once you return, and complete a passenger locator form.
Once in the UK, you must quarantine at home or in the place you are staying for 10 days and take a Covid-19 test on or before day two and day eight.
