Young couple and child rescued after getting 'lost' on Welsh mountain

A young couple and their child had to be rescued from a Welsh mountain after reportedly getting lost.

Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team received a call just before 7.30pm on Friday, August 2 stating that three people were lost on Cadair Idris, in Gwynedd .

The couple, in their 20s, and their six-year-old child reported they had been lost on the mountain since 3pm.

A spokesman for the rescue team said: "They had ascended the Pony Path and reached the summit, but with no real concept of the layout of their environment, and none of the equipment needed to negotiate it.

"They were largely working on recommendations from passers-by.

"Ultimately they found themselves descending the scree-gully adjacent to the Foxes path, a steep and loose slope, and panicked.

"They managed to get themselves down to Llyn y Gadair at the foot of the scree, but were sufficiently shaken up by their experience as to be unable to proceed from that position."

By using Phonefind, a protocol that obtains location data from the casualty's phone, the team were able to locate the walkers.

A group of volunteers were then dispatched to meet up with them, and they helped to provide warm clothing, food and water.

They also helped the three people walk off.

Everyone was safely off the mountain by 10.30pm.
