The Skye Mountain Rescue team were called out to Bidean Druim nan Ramh following reports that a male climber had fell at about 5pm on Sunday.

A total of 26 rescuers headed out to find the man in an "exhausting and at times dangerous" search and recovery operation which took more than 12 hours to complete.

They found the body of the climber at about 10.30pm on the Cuillin Range.

The rescue team only arrived back at the road at 8am on Monday morning but were boosted by the generosity of local people and visiting army personnel.

Following a late night appeal on Facebook, the generous folk provided sandwiches and snacks which were carried up to the rescuers by reserve team members.

"Apparently several local people and some visiting army personnel answered a late night appeal on Facebook to provide sandwiches and snacks which our reserve team members carried up to us - amazing, thank you so much, it was a real boost at 4 in the morning.

"Our sincere condolences go to the family, loved ones and friends of the young climber."

Police were also called to assist with the recovery of the body.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers assisted mountain rescue partners to a report that a climber had fallen in the Cuillins area of the Isle of Skye on Sunday, August 15, 2021.

“The male climber was located and sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
