Young children faced with murder scene as they walked to school

Parents and their young children living close to where the body of a man was found were faced with a murder scene this morning as they walked to school.

They had to walk around the police cordon which has been in place since yesterday morning.

Traffic was also forced to turn around as it reached the middle section of the Bishopgate street this morning until more officers arrived to re-direct vehicles away from the busy road that serves as a connection between Smithdown and Wavertree Road.

Emergency services were called to a house on Bishopgate Street in Wavertree at around 11.45am on Wednesday after a 57-year old man was found dead inside a house.

Merseyside Police confirmed a murder investigation was underway and three people have so far been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Two men aged 49 and 50 - of no fixed abode - were arrested along with a 44-year old woman from Wavertree.

All three have been taken into custody and will be questioned by police.

The family of the deceased man have also been informed.

The neighbour said that although the area did have some problems with antisocial behaviour, it was largely populated by families and people who "keep their head's down".

However, he did those believed to have occupied the home had lived there for around two years.

In a statement yesterday, Detective Inspector Paul Jones said: "An investigation is underway following this tragic incident and we are keen to speak to anyone with information which may be able to assist our enquiries.

"If you were in the area this morning, saw or heard any suspicious behaviour, or have any CCTV or dashcam footage, please come forward.

"Any information, no matter how small, could prove vital to our investigation."
