Young child nearly stood on drugs syringe left near Blackpill Lido in Swansea

A mother has told of her horror after she dragged her child away from a needle on the beach just feet from a popular lido.

Vicky Skivington had taken two of her three children to the popular spot on Swansea's seafront, near Blackpill lido, yesterday.

Elsa, four, and Thomas, six, had been enjoying some fresh air on a dull day away from their Plasmarl home.

But as they walked along the seafront mum Vicky spotted the drug paraphernalia.

She said: "There was a needle on the beach. My four-year-old nearly stood on it."

The full-time mother said she reported the incident to two councillors, who were at the lido at the time.

Ms Skivington said: "It shouldn't have been on the beach. The kids play in the pool near there. It's disgusting.

"I grabbed the baby away before she stood on it."

She said she didn't check whether the needle had been used, although it looked like it had a cap on it.

But she was concerned about the hazards of needles being so close to where youngsters came down to play.

In June, the popular attraction was forced to close and had to be drained of water after a number of glass bottles were smashed and dumped in and around it.

Swansea Council staff spent a weekend cleaning up.

Then earlier this month cooking oil was poured into the lido , forcing it to shut again for days.

It again had to be completely drained and scrubbed with chemicals. Three boys have since been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, and released on bail while enquiries continue.
