Young child from Nottingham dies after being hit by a car at Cornwall campsite

A 20-month-old child from Nottingham has died after a crash at a campsite, police have confirmed.

Officers and paramedics were called to a campsite in the Helston area of Cornwall following a report of a collision between a vehicle and a child at around 12.50pm on Wednesday, May 12.

The child, a 20-month-old girl from the Nottingham area, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family is being supported by specially-trained police officers.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said the crash involved a car towing a caravan and happened on private land.

The air ambulance also attended the incident.

The coroner has been informed and an investigation by officers from the specialist Roads Policing Team continues.

Helston is situated at the northern end of the Lizard Peninsula, approximately 12 miles east of Penzance and 9 miles south-west of Falmouth.
