Young girl found wandering Edinburgh streets alone for hours

Police in Scotland have found the parents of a child found wandering the streets of Edinburgh alone after searching for hours.

Edinburgh Police North East say they have reunited the little girl with her family, around four hours after she was found on the streets dressed in a pink snowsuit.

Police earlier said they found her around 9.35am, and they had been anxiously trying to trace her parents since,

They did not give an estimate of the girl's age, describing her as "a young child."

However one witness who claimed to have seen officers with the child this morning said on social media that she looked around two years old.

Police said shortly after 1.30pm today: "We are pleased to report we have identified the young girl found in Whitson Way this morning and are in the process of reuniting her with her family. Thank you to everyone who shared our information and assisted us in our inquiries.

The force said earlier: "There is a large police presence in the Whitson Way area of Edinburgh this morning as officers were alerted to a young child on her own.

"Efforts are under way to trace the parents or guardian of the young girl who was found around 9:35am this morning, and is now in the care of Police Scotland and the Local Authority.

"The young girl is dressed for the outdoors in a pink snowsuit."

Anyone with information is urged to call officers on 101, quoting incident number 0843.
