Dumbarton flat fire: young child among three rushed to hospital

A child is among three people that have been rushed to hospital following a fire at a flat in Dumbarton.

The girl - whose age has not been confirmed - was taken by ambulance to Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Children.

The blaze broke out on the second floor of a four-storey building at Ashton View in Westcliff around 10:40am this morning, prompting police to race to the scene alongside ambulance and fire crews, the Lennox Herald reports.

Officers evacuated residents living nearby in the block of flats as a precaution as firefighters extinguished the fire safely.

Police confirm that three people suffered smoke inhalation. A man and woman taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment, while a fourth person was given medical attention at the scene by medics.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Officers attended and a number of nearby houses were evacuated as a precaution.

"The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire safely and a man, a woman and a female youth have been taken to hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

"Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the fire are ongoing."

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 10.48am today to attend an incident in Dumbarton.

“We dispatched four ambulances and our special operations team to the scene. We transported two patients to Royal Alexandra Hospital and a third patient to Glasgow Children’s Hospital. A fourth patient was treated at the scene but did not travel to hospital.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.42am on Friday, March 5 to reports of a property on fire at Ashton View, Dumbarton.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to a fire on the second floor of a four-storey building.”
