BSC Young Boys' Sandro Lauper has claimed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tactics made 'things difficult' in the Champions League.
Although Machester United opened the scoring in Switzerland through Cristiano Ronaldo on Tuesday night, the game's momentum shifted into the hosts' favour when Aaron Wan-Bissaka received a straight red card for a reckless challenge.
Young Boys eventually drew level and, while United initially held firm, they found a dramatic winner deep in stoppage time.
Solskjaer made multiple substitutions and tactical tweaks during that game, which some felt were too negative. But amidst the scrutiny the United boss has received for his decisions, Young Boys' Lauper has paid his tactics a compliment.
"We played well from the moment we fell behind. The red card played into our hands, but we did well. We changed things tactically and went with two up top. That helped us and gave us a boost," Sandro Lauper told UEFA.
"It’s hard to keep your concentration for 90 minutes against a team with so much quality.
"We could have applied a bit more pressure for their goal. The important thing is that we scored twice and they only got one.
"They played with five defenders in the second half which made things difficult for us. You have to force the issue and in the end we got our just rewards."
United return to domestic action on Sunday when playing West Ham in the Premier League.
