Young boys arrested and weapons seized as gardai break up organised fight along Kilbarrack train tracks

Weapons have been seized and two boys have been arrested after gardai rushed to the scene of an organised fight along the railway tracks in Kilbarrack earlier today.

At around 5.30pm this evening gardai broke up the planned scuffle and the group involved threw away their weapons including a crutch and a screwdriver which were then seized by gardai.

And then an hour later two boys were arrested in a follow up search by gardai and are being held in Raheny garda station this evening.

The railway incident follows bedlam on DART services throughout Dublin due to a signal fault this afternoon.

Irish Rail said the signal fault only affected DART services after initially saying it impacted on the entire rail network. Services have since resumed.

A garda spokesman said: "As part of ongoing proactive patrols targeting anti-social behaviour in the DMR North area under Operation Irene, Gardaí have seized a number of suspected weapons and arrested two male juveniles for public order offences on Friday, 4th June, 2021.

"An intelligence led operation was conducted at approximately 5:30pm following reports of an organised fight within the confines of one of the railway networks in the Kilbarrack area.

"Gardaí arrived at the scene and intercepted and dispersed a group of persons. A number of weapons were discarded by this group when dispersing and subsequently seized by Gardaí.

"At approximately 6:30pm, a follow up operation was conducted by Gardaí and two male juveniles were arrested in the area. The two males are currently being detained at Raheny Garda Station.

"High visibility patrols will continue in the area over the bank holiday weekend and Gardaí continue to liaise closely with Irish Rail."
