Young boy suffers serious injury after being knocked off bike in hit-and-run in Co Meath

A young boy suffered a serious injury after being knocked off his bicycle in a hit-and-run in Co Meath.

The incident happened near the Carnes Road in Bellewstown, Duleek at around 8.35pm on Wednesday.

The 13-year-old boy suffered a broken collar bone in the collision.

The youngster was struck by a silver/grey hatchback that failed to remain at the scene.

It is understood two young men were inside the vehicle that drove off towards Ardcath.

Officers said the car likely has damage to its left wing mirror and fog lights.

Anyone with information is asked to come forward to Duleek Garda Station.

A spokesman said: "A 13 year old boy was knocked off his bicycle by a car near Carnes Rd, Bellewstown, Duleek on Wednesday night, June 24 at 8.35pm.

"The boy suffered a broken collar bone.

"A silver/grey hatchback with 2 young males on board failed to remain at the scene and drove off in the direction of Ardcath.

"The offending vehicle is likely to have damage to its left wing mirror and front fog lights. Any information to Duleek Garda Station on 018010600."
