Young boy fighting for his life after being hit by jeep while cycling in Borris, Co Carlow

A young boy has been airlifted to hospital with critical injuries after being hit by a jeep while cycling in Co Carlow.

It's believed the boy, 10, was struck while out cycling with a group of friends at around 1.30pm on Thursday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on the Borris to Fenagh road near Ballymartin.

The boy was treated there before being transferred by helicopter to Temple Street Hospital in Dublin where he is now fighting for his life.

A garda spokesman told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí are investigating a road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a jeep that occurred in the Borris area of Carlow on 25/06/2020 at approximately 1:30pm.

"The cyclist, a male child, was airlifted from the scene to Temple Street Hospital. His condition is described as critical. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination.

"Investigations are ongoing."
