Young boy dies after 'tragic accident' at school in Co Cork

A 15-year-old boy has died after a ‘tragic accident’ at a school in Co Cork.

The incident occurred at Skibbereen Community School on Tuesday where emergency services airlifted the pupil to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Gardaí told the Irish Mirror that they have launched an investigation into the death, but confirmed they are treating it as a tragic accident.

A statement read: “Gardaí are investigating the death of a male child, aged 15 years, following an incident at a school in Co. Cork that occurred today, Tuesday 16th November 2021.

“The child was taken to Cork University Hospital where they later passed.

"A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court."
