Young boy airlifted to hospital after kayaking incident at Loch Ness

A young boy has been airlifted to hospital after becoming stranded on the shores of Loch Ness.

Emergency services were called to the southern shore of the iconic loch, near Invermoriston, at around 5.10pm on Sunday.

Two young kayakers had been caught out in bad weather and had become stranded on the steep and overgrown shoreline.

A crew from the RNLI Loch Ness were scrambled at around 5.10pm on Sunday (RNLI Loch Ness)

A crew for RNLI Loch Ness raced to save the boys, whose ages are unknown, while a Coastguard rescue helicopter was also called to the scene.

One of the kayakers was winched up to the helicopter and flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.

The second boy was plucked to safety on the RNLI boat and taken to a land ambulance crew waiting nearby.

The condition of both boys is currently unknown.
