'You won't catch me anyway' shouts man breaking lockdown rules - before being arrested

A man allegedly shouted 'you won't catch me anyway' before being arrested for breaching the restrictions on movement during the coronavirus lockdown.

Police in Tameside said they were patrolling Ashton town centre on Tuesday when they spotted a man 'loitering for no good reason'.

Officers gave the man advice about the current restrictions in place, a post on the GMP Tameside South Facebook page.

The man then reportedly became abusive, before saying 'you won't catch me anyway'.

A 20-year-old man was detained outside Margaret House, Ashton, around ten minutes later.

Under rules brought in by the government, people are only allowed to leave their homes for limited reasons.

They include shopping for necessities, one form of daily exercise, a medical reason and to travel for essential work.

The full Facebook post by local officers said: "A 20-year-old male has been arrested in Ashton-under-Lyne for failing to comply with restrictions imposed under the Coronavirus Act 2020 and Public Order offence.

"Officers were out and about when they advised the male of the restrictions in place when he was observed loitering for no good reason in the town centre.

"Despite the pleasant advice given he became abusive to the officers stating 'you won't catch me anyway' (abuse left out for obvious reasons).

"Challenge accepted - Male detained by another officer 10 minutes later after he was sighted again riding around with no purpose near to Margaret House, Ashton.

"I'm sure you'll agree that this is clearly ignoring the advice given by the government and putting others at risk."
