You won't be able to use your Trentbarton Mango cards on the tram from December - this is why

From the end of this year Trentbarton Mango cards won't be able to serve Nottingham's tram service due to company changes.

The bus firm is planning to make changes to its in a bid to go contactless.

However, from Sunday, December 29, people using a Mango card on the tramline won't be able to do so as the NET machines won't accept the card from this point.

People will have to switch to a pay-as-you-go Robin Hood card to use on the to receive similar discounts.

Mango cards will be compatible on Trentbarton buses past this date.

Anyone with credit still on their Mango top-up card will be eligible to a refund.

Trentbarton said further information about the changes will be released in due course.

A spokesman for NET said: “As customers will no longer be able to use Mango cards on the tram from December 29, we would advise they switch to the Robin Hood card, which allows pay as you go and season travel on tram and bus services.

“Alternatively, they can use one of our mobile ticketing options or best value season ticket products. If customers want any help in selecting one of our products we are happy to help – just contact us on 0115 824 6060 or call into the Travel Centre in King Street.

“We’re advising our customers to run down any outstanding balances on their mango cards before December 29 and they will be unable to purchase any top up credits from our ticket vending machines from September onwards.

“This change is due to Trentbarton changing its ticketing provider, which means that after December 29 Mango cards will no longer be compatible with NET ticket machines.”

Councillor Adele Williams, Nottingham City Council’s portfolio holder for transport, said: “In Nottingham we’re proud to have one of the best public transport offers in the country. Among our ambitions is to make travelling by bus, tram or train – or all three – as simple and convenient as possible.

“With the Mango no longer being accepted on the tram from December 29, we’d encourage current users to switch to the Robin Hood card, which will offer the best value fares for those travelling within the network using more than one operator.”
