'You will regret this' - Chelsea fans fume as Jay Dasilva seals permanent move to Bristol City

Chelsea fans have been left frustrated after young defender Jay Dasilva rejoined Bristol City on a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old having excelled for the on loan from the Blues last season.

exercised an option in the loan agreement to make his stay permanent, and although the fee is undisclosed it is not thought to be much.

Dasilva made 32 appearances in all competitions for City in 2018/19 and eventually saw off competition for the left-back spot from fellow England under-21 Lloyd Kelly, who has since joined Bournemouth for £12m.

It seems his form has not gone unnoticed, with Chelsea fans on social media angered by the announcement that another academy product had departed Stamford Bridge without being given an opportunity at first team level.

Alex Goldberg: Next time maybe don’t even give a team an option to buy on a player like that. Just a thought.

George Forrester: That’s Salah, Aina and now Dasilva we have lost for peanuts because of stupid clauses that in no way benefit us. Player does great, they get a bargain. If not they pass on him.

Ollie Glanvill: You best keep track of him @PetrCech and @ClaudeMakelele.

Alexis Kavkas: Some things never change. 3 things certain in life 1) death 2) taxes 3) Chelsea letting quality players go. You will regret this. Emerson should be the starter and jay under study Jay Da Silva is better than Alonso.

CarefreeYouth: I feel let down but over the years so many of our players on loan have probably felt the same way so hopefully this is a wake up call to you all.

Harry Mahon: Does this club realise we have a ban? We sticking with Alonso over actual talent. Shambles.

At The Bridge: He has such huge potential, wishing him all the best!

Danny Busciglio: Best of luck to him, I’m positive he’ll make us eat humble pie. There better be a buy back clause.

Rex Agezo: Keep selling the talented young lads and buy useless players like Drinkwater and co.

Dasilva joined Chelsea as an Under-13 and won the UEFA Youth League twice and the FA Youth Cup three times, scoring in the 2014 final.

Speaking after the announcement, Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson said: “Jay proved to be such a great fit for us and is committed to helping City grow further. He is a young English player, with fantastic ability, and he will only become a better player.

“With Lloyd Kelly’s move, it was a priority for us to secure an established left-sided player and, having fulfilled that role along with Lloyd last season, Jay was a player we were very keen to bring here permanently.

“He is energetic, quick and has the ability to both defend and attack, so he is an exciting addition to the squad and I am delighted we can continue to work with him.”
