'You want your team to stand up and we did' - Neal Ardley's verdict on Notts County draw at Maidenhead

Neal Ardley was pleased with Notts County’s character as they stretched their unbeaten run in the National League to six games after a goalless draw at Maidenhead.

The Magpies found chances hard to come by at York Road in what was a dire encounter with James Akintunde closest to scoring only to be denied by Dion Kelly-Evans’ brilliant goalline clearance.

The result kept Notts in the playoff places ahead and Magpies boss Ardley was pleased with the resilience his side showed going into that game by limiting Maidenhead’s threat.

“It was tough,” he said.

“It probably wasn’t a good game to watch.

“I knew it would be a different game from Boxing Day.

“They went man for man all over the pitch and we couldn’t move the ball quick enough.

“We tried to turn them and the game became a bit scrappy.

“It was similar to the Solihull game, apart from the difference being we didn’t nick a goal.

“But when it’s a battle, the one thing you want is your team to stand up and keep that clean sheet which is what we did.”
