You've been hanging your Christmas tree lights incorrectly, according to experts

There's something quite magical about looking at your Christmas tree on a cold winter's eve, as its fairy lights majestically twinkle.

But did you know there is a way to make it look even more magical?

Even though many of us have already put our tree up, according to experts we could make it look even better with a bit of adjusting, The Mirror reports.

Speaking to House Beautiful, designer Francesco Bilotto said that it's better to hang your lights vertically rather than horizontally.

"This way every tip of your tree, from branch to branch, will twinkle with delight," he said.

Another added benefit is that your lights won't be sucked into the branches of the tree and hidden from view. By hanging them vertically, you've got them perfectly on display.

So how do you do it?

Francesco recommends starting at the top of the tree, using the end which doesn't have the socket attached.

Let your lights hang to the bottom of the tree.

Then, pull the lights to the right three or four inches. Work your way up the tree until you get to the top before working your way back down again.

Repeat the process until the entire tree is covered.

He's also got another tip which will make your tree sparkle.

"Hang your shiniest ornaments deeper inside the tree and the light will reflect off them."
