You've been cutting lettuce wrong - foodie explains why you shouldn't use knife

If you’re making a salad you’ll probably find yourself reaching for a chopping board and a knife - but there’s an easier way to prepare a lettuce.

One foodie has shared a useful trick which will save you lots of time in the kitchen as well as the all important washing up.

Fans have gone mad for the kitchen hack, which is a simple way of removing the core out of an iceberg lettuce without needing a knife.

Suzy Q shared the handy tip on TikTok, on her account which goes by the username of ocwarrior9.

She posted the video to her 120.9k followers and captioned it: “My momma taught me this one.”

In the video she shows fans exactly how to prepare the lettuce. First Suzy removes the plastic wrapper.

Then she points at the core while the video reads: “Easiest way to take the core out.”

She holds the lettuce over the counter the right way up, so the core is facing the surface. She then hits the lettuce against the table quite forcefully.

Suzy then turns the lettuce around and shows that the core has been pushed inside the lettuce, but then pulled it out, which leaves a hollowed-out centre in the lettuce.

Fans were quick to comment on the video, praising the tip. One wrote: “Thanks for sharing now ima have to try.”

Another added: “It’s the only way to do it, easy to fill with water and rinse it out too.”

A third wrote: “Learned that when mama taught me how to cook.”

One commentator was already a fan of the trick: “I learned this at a restaurant I worked at when I was 15. Accurate!!”

One user even advised what to do with the lettuce core: “Keep that piece and put it in water..it will grow more lettuce.”
