'You scratch your head' - ex-Nottingham Forest star admits Reds' goal concerns

The importance of Lewis Grabban Joe Lolley to Nottingham Forest’s promotion charge cannot be underestimated, says former Reds star Brian Laws, but they need some help.

Lolley and Grabban have contributed 28 of Forest’s 54 Championship goals this term, and Laws feels its time other players chipped in to take the pressure off.

Grabban has 19 to his name and Lolley nine, with captain Ben Watson next in the pecking order with three, along with Sammy Ameobi, Matty Cash, Ryan Yates and Tiago Silva, and Laws wants to see more goals coming from around the pitch, instead of just relying on two players.

“Yes, of course they are,” when Laws was asked about the pair’s importance to Forest and their style of play.

“I don’t think you can hide away from the fact that Lolley and Grabban provide a lot of what’s going forward and what’s good about Forest,” he told BBC Radio Nottingham.

“Where the other goals are going to come from, you scratch your head.”

Laws believes the Reds need to see goals coming from elsewhere in the side, especially defenders via set-pieces if they're to strengthen their hopes of success this term.

While Cash has three, only Tobias Figueiredo (two), Joe Worrall (one) and Michael Dawson (one) have found the net.

“The defence don’t really contribute in terms of, the centre-halves aren’t scoring a lot of goals, midfield players aren’t chipping in with as many as they would like, so unfortunately, it is, Lolley and Grabban who everybody will look at,” said the ex-Reds right-back.

“When they’re on the park, you feel like you’ve got a chance and when they’re not, you feel where is the goal going to come from?

“Is it going to be a bit of individual creativity, or is going to be a free-kick that we’ve had in the past from Silva.

“Those two players in particular are so important to the team.”
