'You're ruining it' - Arsenal fans react to Freddie Ljungberg's team selection vs Brighton

Freddie Ljungberg is taking charge Arsenal for the first time at Emirates Stadium this evening and has yet again decided against starting Nicolas Pepe.

Ljungberg has made three changes to the side that drew with Norwich with Hector Bellerin, Sokratis and Lucas Torreira returning to the starting XI.

Bellerin and Sokratis are partnered by David Luiz and Sead Kolasinac in the back four as Torreira and Granit Xhaka join Joe Willock in midfield.

Mesut Ozil keeps his place in the No.10. position and will be tasked with providing for Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who will play up front.

Ljungberg on fixing Arsenal's defence

Torreira has had a difficult season so far and struggled to replicate the form of his debut season under Unai Emery. As well as taking him in and out of the side, Emery didn't help by using him in an unfamiliar midfield role.

Last season, the Uruguayan did shine when partnering Granit Xhaka, however, so Ljungberg will be hoping for him to replicate those performances tonight.

One problem that has seemed to carry over from Emery's tenure is the use of Pepe. The Ivorian hasn't started in the Premier League since Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace in October.

His along with Kieran Tierney's absence has puzzled Arsenal fans ahead of their fixture with Brighton.

Despite the disappointment of Pepe and Tierney not featuring against Brighton, fans are willing to give Ljungberg more leeway than they did with Emery.

The Swede will need to turn fortunes around quickly, however, as Arsenal are now eight matches without a win.

Sitting in 10th place, the Gunners can potentially move up to sixth with a win tonight.

Should Arsenal fail to win, however, they will not have won a Premier League game in two months. Their last league win came on October 6 when they beat Bournemouth 1-0.

With that win coming at the Emirates, Ljungberg may be hopeful that a return home will help his cause. The Swede is yet to take charge of Arsenal at home and captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is hoping to make it memorable.

"It's Freddie's first home match as head coach so it's a special ocassion and I really hope that you (Arsenal fans) will all be behind him and us," the club captain said to the official matchday programme.

"We are at home tonight and we have to make it a tough place to visit again. We have to be the boss at home. The Emirates has to become a fortress again."
