'You're not welcome': Nigel Farage visit to Scotland met by anti-racism protesters

NIGEL Farage’s visit to Scotland has been met by a group of protesters brandishing banners.

The Reform UK is speaking to the press in Aberdeen today (Monday) before heading to Hamilton to campaign ahead of the by-election.

But protesters have gathered outside the Aberdeen venue in protest, including anti-racism campaigners from Stand Up To Racism.

Banners have been unfurled, including one which states: “Farage not welcome in Scotland.”

Meanwhile, the protesters have also started chants with the help of four megaphones, including “Farage Farage we know you, you’re a racist through and through”, and “rescue every refugee, throw Farage into the sea”.

They could be heard audibly inside the press event as the Reform UK leader started his speech.

Police officers have subsequently arrived at the scene.

Voters in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse will go to the polls on Thursday June 5 to elect Holyrood’s newest MSP, after the sad passing of SNP minister Christina McKelvie earlier this year.

The by-election is expected to be a three-horse race between the SNP, Labour and Reform UK.

A spokesperson for SUTR said: "The message that Nigel Farage and Reform UK send is really harmful. The scapegoating of refugees and migrants when refugees and migrants are crucial for our communities, for our culture, for our economy, we need migrants and refugees.

"We've got a crumbling NHS. We've got a rising cost of living, got an increasing housing crisis, and these aren't the problems that Nigel's going to fix.

"He's concerned about getting more money for him and his friends. They're not going to stop the genocide going on in Gaza. They're not going to help the increasing attacks on trans communities. They're not going to help the cost of living crisis. They're not going to help my rising costs, trying to find a place to live so that I can go to university.

"They're not concerned about any of this. They're not a party for the people, and their scapegoating of refugees and migrants is utterly despicable, and it's just going to hurt all of us. So we need to unite against that."
