Well, Vivienne Westwood is a bit far out, isn’t she? I have a 14-year-old granddaughter and I see young people all the time and I think they dress great. The coat I am wearing is from a private coat seller and my other clothes are from Marks & Spencer. Photograph: Graham Turner for the Guardian
There’s so much choice and cheap clothes everywhere that you can’t blame people for buying disposable fashion. Vivienne Westwood is probably commenting from her own specific environment where she can get away with being outlandish and “individual”. Everything I am wearing was bought in the last year. Younger people do dress in more of a uniform but I think “clones” is a bit strong. With the abundance of everything there is less chance to be an individual nowadays. Photograph: Graham Turner for the Guardian
I think Vivienne Westwood should be quiet – it’s fascinating what young people wear. Everyone is buying cheaper clothes these days. The majority of what I wear is TK Maxx and Marks & Spencer, and my coat was from a charity shop. Photograph: Graham Turner for the Guardian
People are trying to keep up with how quickly trends are changing, so I don’t blame them for shopping on the high street for cheap clothes. Normal people can’t afford designer prices. I’ve had this coat for 10 years but everything else is fairly recent. The only thing that bothers me about young people’s clothes is those baggy trousers. Photograph: Graham Turner for the Guardian
Young people have always followed fashions, so I’m not surprised they all look similar. I dress for comfort and convenience like anyone, but with an element of individuality. Photograph: Graham Turner for the Guardian
