'You're in our house, play by our rules' - Wycombe goalscorer's surprise message to Sunderland fans

Wycombe matchwinner Darius Charles has taken aim at the Sunderland fans following the Chairboys' 1-0 win over Phil Parkinson's side.

The 31-year-old defender scored the only goal of the game in the first half, capitalising when the Black Cats failed to clear a free-kick into the box.

Charles celebrated in front of a packed away end, and was asked afterwards why he made a beeline for the Sunderland supporters following his goal.

And he response has not gone down well on Wearside.

"They came here and I felt they were quite smug, and they came with this 'Sunderland' presence - and I just wanted to let them know that you're in our house, you play by our rules," Charles said.

"This is Wycombe, this is Adams Park, and we are who we are. We're second in the table, you are wherever you are - respect us."

Parkinson's side failed to muster a shot on target until Aiden McGeady's late effort was pushed on to the cross bar by Ryan Allsop in the home goal.

And Charles couldn't hide his delight after his effort proved to be the vital goal.

"It's incredible," he said. "I'm more happy we got the win than scoring the goal myself - and the clean sheet - but however I can add to the team and the squad is a blessing for me."
