'You never failed to light up any room you walked in': Moving tributes to woman, 21, who died after M62 horror crash

A 21 year-old woman who died in a motorway horror crash has been described as the 'kindest soul' as tributes pour into her. Kate Swale was fatally injured in a smash on the M62 in Merseyside in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, May 27).

Merseyside Police were called to the stretch between J5 for Roby and J6 for Tarbock Island just after midnight after a grey Vauxhall Corsa and a silver Mercedes C180 were involved in a collision.

A man and woman were taken to hospital but the 21-year-old woman, a passenger in the car, has died. She has now been named locally as Ms Swale.

And devastated friends have taken to social media to pay their respects to Kate and send their condolences to her family and friends reports the Liverpool Echo. Danny Thornley said on the site's Facebook page: "Heart-breaking. Can’t believe it. RIP. We are all thinking of you and your family."

Maxine White wrote: "RIP baby girl, heart-breaking thinking of all the family especially her mum", as Harry Vlasman added: "Rest in peace Kate, you will be missed, thinking of your family and friends."
Leslee Sanders said: "Rip Kate...forever 21." Marlene Beecham commented: "RIP Kate heart to the family, sad loss so young. God bless all."

Earlier today a friend posted a tribute that was publicly shared online, they said: "How am I even writing this, oh my girl I am going to miss you so much. You never failed to light up any room you walked in. You had the kindest soul and I’m forever grateful to have made some of the most special memories with you.

"I’ll miss our FaceTimes and our daily texts to each other I wouldn’t of got through life if it weren’t for you, thank you for always being that friend I could count on. Hope your dancing with the stars now our Queen forever21."

The motorway was closed for almost 11 hours as emergency services dealt with the aftermath and carried out enquiries.

Merseyside Police previously confirmed that the man received medical treatment which is not life-threatening. A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Firstly my thoughts and condolences are with the family of the woman who has sadly lost their life in this collision.

"We have now launched an investigation into her death and her family have been informed. They are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers.

“My investigation team are in the early stages of gathering and examining evidence so that we can provide the family with answers. Although an arrest has been made, our enquiries continue.

"The help of the public is paramount to assist in the investigation, and I would ask anyone who witnessed this collision or who has any information to please contact us.

“Alternatively, if you were driving in the vicinity of the M62 between junction 6 to 5 at the time of the crash, I ask that you please check your dashcam footage in case you have captured something which will assist in the investigation. Every piece of information or footage could be vital in establishing what happened."
