'You miss me right?' - Salomon Rondon's message to former Newcastle team-mate Miguel Almiron

Former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon has posted an emotional message on social media to his former team-mate Miguel Almiron.

The attackers formed an effective triumvirate up front along with Ayoze Perez following Almiron's arrival on Tyneside in January.

Dubbed by fans as the "Three Amigos", the forwards helped stave off relegation fears in Rafa Benitez's final months at St James' Park.

But to the dismay of many supporters, the attacking trio were broken up over the summer as Rondon and Perez followed Benitez out of the exit door.

The on-loan Venezuelan striker joined the former United manager at Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Yifang, while Perez completed a £30 million switch to Leicester City.

The Chinese Super League has now concluded for the calendar year, but Rondon was keen to show the hard work has not stopped ahead of the 2020 campaign.

The 30-year-old posted on Instagram on Tuesday a workout video with the caption "a lot of hard work in the jungle #beastmode ", a post which captured the attention of his former Magpies' team-mate.

Almiron commented with two ghost emojis, which prompted Rondon to ask "you miss me right?".

The response prompted one excited Instagram user to comment "EVERYONE in Newcastle misses you!!"

The striker's post has been viewed more than 25,000 times at the time of writing.
