SpaceX rocket and Starlink launch postponed till later date

The launch of a SpaceX rocket, due to pass over the UK skies tonight, has been postponed.

As part of the Starlink mission, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch from the Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida at a later date.

The launch was initially set to go ahead yesterday but was postponed to Friday.

SpaceX have yet to confirm the new launch date after today's mission was aborted.

The company tweeted: "Standing down from today’s Starlink mission; team needed additional time for pre-launch checkouts, but Falcon 9 and the satellites are healthy.

"Will announce new target launch date once confirmed on the Range."

The aim for SpaceX is to have thousands in the sky, and provide global satellite internet access.

Its founder, Elon Musk, recently celebrated a major milestone, as SpaceX became the first private company to send humans into orbit, carrying Nasa astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley to the International Space Station (ISS).
