Sister site Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar released his fourth mock draft of the year and you will never guess who he has being taken first overall but the Arizona Cardinals. Actually, you probably will, as it is the most common pick in mock drafts.
With the first overall pick in the draft, Farrar projects the Cardinals will take Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, who has been rumored to be their favorite for the pick for weeks.
Last year, Kliff Kingsbury couldn’t say enough about Kyler Murray. At the owner’s meetings this week, Kliff Kingsbury couldn’t cay enough about Kyler Murray. This is not a smokescreen, kids. Murray is a perfect fit in Kingsbury’s offense, the Cardinals can offload Josh Rosen for a high pick (probably not a first), and Murray’s only problem will be playing behind an offensive line that may be worse than the one he had at Oklahoma.
If Murray is the pick, Rosen will most likely already be dealt to another team. If that happens, it is quite possible the Cardinals end up with another first-round pick, or at least they could. In fact, they shouldn’t draft Murray if they can’t get a first-rounder for Rosen, considering many factors.
But there is a lot to like about Murray. He checks every box as a quarterback except he is small and only has one year of starting experience. Perhaps general manager Steve Keim’s regret for not having drafted Russell Wilson or Patrick Mahomes will drive him to avoid missing again.
If Murray is the pick, it means the Cardinals are starting over again and struggles are to be expected in 2019.
