Roy Keane and Graeme Souness verbally locked horns live on ITV while discussing the penalty that was awarded to Argentina against Saudi Arabia in the World Cup.
The South Americans were awarded a penalty for grappling in the box by a Saudi defender. Lionel Messi stepped up to send his country into the lead on 10 minutes and during half-time, pundits Keane and Souness were at loggerheads about the decision, with things getting heated pitchside in Qatar.
Speaking about the incident, Keane said he didn't think it was a penalty, to which Souness responded: “He (the defender) is not watching the ball. He doesn’t know where the ball is, he’s only interested in the Argentinian player, he doesn’t know when it’s been kicked, he’s not watching and that is a penalty.”

Keane hit back: “No, no, no. All this will do is encourage diving. He’s dragging him down, he’s dragging him down!” The pair then exchanged a back-and-forth debate over the decision, arguing their opposing views.
Souness stated that the specific laws of the game should be looked at while Keane was more keen to discuss the incident itself in action. At one point in the clash, Keane hit back at Souness’ claim that the discussion had no room for opinions, rhetorically asking: “Well what are we here for?”
He added: “That’s my opinion, that’s why I’m here. I’m here to give my opinion, that’s not a penalty.” Souness responded: "This is not our opinions, it's about the laws of the game. I've heard you say it 10 times [that you don't think it's a penalty], do you want to say it again? Let someone else speak, you'll learn a lot more if you listen rather than talk all the time."
