'You'll eat your words one day' - Anthony Martial's desire to leave divides Manchester United fans

Anthony Martial's agent has expressed his client's desire to depart Manchester United in the January transfer window leading to a split reaction from the fans.

The Frenchman has fallen down the pecking order this season amid an increase in competition for forward places.

The arrival of Edinson Cavani contributed to his lack of involvement as well as the summer incomings of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo thrusting his career at Old Trafford into the spotlight.

With just over two years remaining on his current deal, the Reds would still demand a significant fee with the 26-year-old should he depart United.

However, despite his intentions for a mid-season transfer, he is currently recovering from a knee injury.

Martial's representative Philippe Lamboley told Sky Sports : "Anthony wishes to leave the club in January.

"He just needs to play. He doesn't want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon."

The latest development in a bubbling saga surrounding the attacker has led to a mixed reaction from the United faithful with some happy and disappointed to learn of his intentions to continue his career away from the Theatre of Dreams.

Some fans expressed their gratitude, sending their best wishes to the former Monaco-man.

Whereas other fractions of the fanbase expressed their thoughts on the news.

With just one goal in seven Premier League appearances, Martial has failed to make a significant impact, after scoring seven last season following his sparkling 2019-20 season where he finished as the Reds' top goalscorer.

Despite his disappointing form, he was included in Didier Deschamps' France squad in September scoring once in their three World Cup qualifiers but he has been omitted from the last two.

"We have to make sure players want to stay here," interim manager Ralf Rangnick said on the plans for the upcoming window in his pre-Norwich press conference.

"If players are not getting enough game time it might make sense to speak individually. Loan might make sense for some."
