'You know who' - Nottingham Forest fans earn Nottinghamshire police praise

Nottingham Forest supporters were praised by the police in the aftermath of Sunday’s fine 3-1 victory over Huddersfield Town at the City Ground.

For the first time, the Reds played out a league fixture behind closed doors thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic with supporters urged to stay away.

A game which would have attracted a crowd in excess of 28,000 when originally scheduled to be played in mid-March, was instead played out in front of staff, media and a few famous faces in the form of cardboard cut-outs, including Roy Keane eating an ice cream.

Before Sunday afternoon’s clash, the club, police and EFL had promoted the ‘When we play, please stay away’ campaign, and Forest’s dedicated officer at Nottinghamshire police, Simon Travell, thanked fans for heeding advice, saying no supporters attended the ground.

The Reds are back at home on Wednesday evening (6pm) when they host faltering Bristol City followed by Saturday lunchtime’s trip to Pride Park and the small matter of Derby County, a fixture PC Travell gave a cheeky nod to.

“Wasn’t the same without a packed City Ground but the result goes a long way I’m sure,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Glad to say all fans respected the club’s wishes and no-one attended the ground.

“On to the home game against Bristol on Wednesday and then you know who.”
