You drinking? ‘Not yet’: Crack cocaine found in Vermont children’s system, parents charged with endangerment

A Vermont couple is facing child endangerment charges after authorities discovered crack cocaine in the systems of their three children.

According to police, Jena Mays and Travis Dashnow were arrested after deputies responded to a broken-down truck at a Park and Ride in Georgia, Vermont. Inside the vehicle, officers reportedly found drug paraphernalia and evidence of crack cocaine within reach of the children.

According to reports, the children later tested positive for the drug, prompting immediate intervention from child protective services. Mays and Dashnow were charged with cruelty to children and reckless endangerment.

Both pleaded not guilty in court and were released under conditions while the case proceeds. The children have since been placed in the care of a family member, authorities said.

Dashnow’s July crash

Dashnow has pending legal issues in a separate matter. On July 18, 2025, Vermont State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 2 in Marshfield. Investigators say Dashnow, who was driving northbound, struck a stationary vehicle and showed signs of impairment.

Officers reportedly asked Dashnow at the scene if he had been drinking or had any drugs in his system, and he responded, “Not yet.”

Dashnow was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing. Police obtained a search warrant to collect a blood sample, but Dashnow refused to comply, according to reports.

That refusal escalated the matter, with prosecutors citing him to appear in Washington County Superior Court–Criminal Division to face felony-level DUI charges. The Times Argus and other local outlets have reported on the case, which remains active as Dashnow and Mays prepare for upcoming court hearings.
