You don’t need an appliance garage — I’ve been using this $29 IKEA classic for years, and it keeps my gadgets neatly stowed away

Raskog utility cart.

I've tested more kitchen appliances than I can count. And sometimes, I get to keep them. But there's one problem: my kitchen is too small for all my gadgets.

I know, it's a real tiny violin moment, but fortunately I've found a $29 solution, and it comes from IKEA.

With three deep shelves and a sturdy metal build, IKEA's Raskog utility cart can be wheeled in and out of my kitchen as needed. It houses my rice cooker, blender and even my ice cream maker securely, and because I opted for the green colorway, it also blends in perfectly with my kitchen decor.

Why I love it

The Raskog utility cart is one of IKEA's most popular products, and I have a number of them scattered around my home. One lives in the bathroom, where it stores excess products and spare towels. There's another in my cupboard, housing my various power tools and other DIY items.

Because it has an open top, I store taller appliances on the top shelf, and slot spare baking sheets and mixing bowls in the lower levels.

If you don't need the open top, though, this smart design also comes with an optional wooden lid. This can double up as a surface for writing, or simply act as an extra table next to your desk or couch while stowing away excess wires or other clutter.

In my dream kitchen, I'd have a generous appliance garage to keep my blender, rice cooker, juicer, ice cream maker and Velvetiser out of sight. But installing an appliance garage is expensive, and requires a lot of space!

For now, this $29 staple is more than sufficient for securely housing all my go-to gadgets, while saving my overflowing kitchen counters from yet another eyesore.
